Food Storage Canisters

A lot of restaurants and large catering companies will use food storage canisters. Because many are insulated, they keep food hot or at least warm for hours. Or many moms use them to pack up lunches and put leftovers in them. Some will swear Rubbermaid is the best because whatever food is put into them, they do not take up the smell of the food. There are lids that lock and have rubber gaskets to keep the food fresh and moist free.

They are great for making blocks of ice as they do not crack or break. Rubbermaid canisters come in a variety of sizes and colors. Many food storage containers are great because if dropped they do not shatter or break. Some make the lids so they will snap on the bottom of the food storage canisters to keep from losing them.

Food storage canisters can be bought as a single item or in sets. Glass ones look good as they come with stainless steel lids. They are nice looking if one has all stainless steel appliances. Pyrex and Corningware make excellent food storage containers. They last a life time and it takes a lot to break them.

Pyrex being one of the best food storage canisters come in many colors, they lids can be plastic or glass. Being clear you can always know what is in them. They can be put in the freezer, oven and then dishwasher. One nice thing about these is that they do not take up the food smells. When you put in onion soup one day and then hamburger the next, you will not smell either one.

Another good food storage canister is a company called Corelle. They have been around for many years and also make plates, soup bowls, cups and saucers. They are almost indestructible. The canisters have nice simple lines. Some sets are a one, two or three quart sizes. They are enamel on steel and have lids that are usually made out of wood. These should not be put in the dishwasher. These food storage canisters come with a one year warranty.

Many food storage canisters look good on the counter. There is such a variety of materials that they are made of; sometimes it is hard to choose. Some people like the glass one, others like the stainless steel. Ceramic ones, plastic ones, even stoneware can add beauty to any kitchen. Stoneware food storage canisters can be pricey. But they do look good and will last a life time. Many have beautiful designs on them; one is out there to fit any kitchen. Some have apples, pears, cherries or different foods.

If you really want one of kind food storage canisters, get the hand painted ones. They are remarkable but extremely expensive. More for show than anything, they will still and charm and beauty to your kitchen. Some food storage canisters are made of fine china and are not recommended if there are small children in the house. Being so expensive one would be upset if it was pushed off the counter, not to mention the safe issues.
